When I was still at junior school, my mum excitedly put a programme on TV and said, “I used to watch this years ago. It’s about a witch who is married to a normal man – it’s so good“.
I didn’t know what to expect. It was all in Black & White and it had a theme tune that is imprinted upon my brain to this day.
And so, at a very early age, began what was my childhood crush on Elizabeth Montgomery who played Samantha in Bewitched.

I don’t really have many celebrity crushes. I really like Bitty Schram in Monk and I also like an actress in Resident Alien.
Bitty Schram and the RA actress:

Most of the the celebrities people usually wax lyrical about, do nothing for me.
But I also loved the show, Bewitched. Not just because Elizabeth M was in it.
I like the way Agnes Moorhead always called Darren the wrong name and treated him like it was a bit of a putz.
I liked Darren’s boss, Larry Tate and how he was always busting his balls about one thing or the other over the latest ad campaign. You could never please Larry for long, so Darren was always under pressure at work.
Darren was an ad man, you see. Not a bad one either, from what I could make of things.
In the show he really did love Samantha, so it was about a witch in love with a mere mortal. She had to put up with his ‘normalness’ and he had to come to terms with her ability to take shortcuts with magic 🙂
There were other characters I loved, like the neighbour next door who always witnessed something ‘witchy’ Samantha had just done, only to call her husband to look out of the window, at which point the ‘thing’ had gone away. He thought she was nuts… ha ha.
And Aunt Clara with her shit ability to do spells which would always go wrong. She’d turn up with door knobs for no apparent reason and was as eccentric as an aunt could ever be.
I loved it then. I still love it now.
And I still have a ‘teeny’ enduring crush on Elizabeth Montgomery.
I once ran this by a friend of mine and he replied, “I can see why you like Elizabeth Montgomery mate. She’s looks like the homely sort that would bake a good cake, but also wouldn’t mind being bent over the sofa.”
His words, not mine. Although maybe he had a point!

On that bombshell, I shall see thee in the next one. Thanks for reading.
