There are certain people I spare a thought for every day, even though they are no longer with me.
My grandfather is one of them. 35 years ago now. I still think about him and I still miss him.
Here’s a picture of me with him when I was a kid:

So far it’s been more than twice as long as I even knew him.
It never goes away. You just learn to live with it somehow.
I met a woman some years ago now that felt like my soulmate at the time.
I think about her too.
There’s a film called Bridge to Terabithia, which I love.
It has this quote in it which is really about dealing with loss:

Enduring memories are what keep people alive when they are no longer with us.
Derren Brown said, “The true legacy of a person is how they live on in the hearts and minds of others.”
Never a truer word spoken.
There’s also a delightful quote from It’s A Wonderful Life about love and how that makes you want to be around someone.

When it comes to quotes, there are few better. I feel happy whenever I read it and I don’t know why (lol).
I watched a film once about this guy who lost his wife, but he still spoke to her every day. For him it lived on – I think that is humans at their most beautiful.
There are others I think about. Not many, but some people leave their mark in an indelible way upon your soul.
That is how life is when you apply real meaning to things in the way that I do, there’s nothing you can do about it other than accept it.
I’d quite like to be 15 again. I’d go to my grandfathers house and spend the day with him. I’d find out what he did in the war. I’d ask him about the things he loved. I’d tell him that I loved him.
When you care about someone so much it’s painful at times.
But you can’t focus on that, you have to remind yourself of everything that was good. How lucky we are to have known people that left such a lasting impression upon us.
I think so anyway.
People say all the time, that if you love someone, tell them now. Please do, because tomorrow really is never promised.
Thanks for reading 🙂
